THE NARROW BELT OF TRUTH
I saw a famous young actor interviewed on television who shared a philosophy I'm afraid is far too prevalent these days. He
said something like this: "The world needs to stop debating what is right and wrong. Everyone must search for their own truth,
and live on the basis of what they believe to be true." The key idea here is that truth is debatable. But in fact, truth is very
concrete, and very narrow. God has built this world on the basis of absolute truth, not relative truth or perceived truth.
A palm tree down in Florida might say, "You know, I don't like this hot climate and all this sand. I think I'll transplant
myself to the Arctic Circle." Do you think the palm tree would survive? A polar bear might decide that he's much too chilly in
Antarctica, and decide to live instead in the Bahamas. But he wouldn't live long. You see, we were created to operate within
certain spiritual parameters in the same way the palm tree and the polar bear were made for certain physical parameters. So
the person who says, "I don't like these rules, I don't believe this truth, I don't choose to submit to this code of morality," is not
really going to live. If we are to be successful in this life, we must gird ourselves with the narrow belt of truth. To do anything
else is to merely exist.
